Item description
THE CONQUEST OF ENGLAND
by John Richard Green
Harper Brothers, 1884
1st U.S. Edition
Condition: Good++
Having published his first volume of England's early history, THE MAKING OF ENGLAND, the author wrote this between periods of illness, but died just prior to its completion. Using his manuscript notes, his wife put the finishing touches on the final chapters. The book covers the country's history from 758 to 1071. There are 607 numbered pages, including an index, in additon to nine maps and a portrait of the author. This copy's condition grade is largely due to the cover corner wear and fraying at the spine ends. There is also some chipping and writing on the front end pages; the upper corner of the last few pages has some staining, though mostly on the advertising pages. Otherwise, the interior is nice and unmarked, with moderate yellowing; the binding is secure.
