The "flaking" or "shadowy" effect could occur during the manufacturing process and could be seen on brand new items; this is not a defect. Soft bags are shipped folded by the manufacturers; it may take a while for a bag to take its original shape. Stuffing the bag with something soft, i.e., folded clothes, will speed up the process. Unstructured bags, i.e., reversible totes, do not hold shape. All items come with the original manufacturer's warranty.
