Item description
Vintage 8x10 in. US double-weight sepia-tinted matte copy photograph (not a vintage original photo printed at the time it was taken) from the classic silent film action/adventure romance, THE THREE MUSKETEERS, released in 1921 by United Artists and directed by Fred Niblo. Based upon the famous story by Alexandre Dumas, the young Gascon D'Artagnan (Douglas Fairbanks) arrives in Paris, his heart set
on joining the king's Musketeers. He is taken under the wings of three of the
most respected and feared Musketeers, Porthos (George Siegmann), Aramis (Eugene Pallette), and Athos (Leon Barry). Together, they
fight to save France and the honor of a lady (Marguerite De La Motte) from the machinations of the
powerful Cardinal Richelieu Nigel De Brulier).
This vintage photograph comes from the famed John E. Allen Inc. Collection of Park Ridge, New Jersey, and features his rubber stamp on the verso. The image depicts a frame blow-up of D'Artagnan (Douglas Fairbanks) holding the bridle of his horse as he carries a small bag in his other hand upon his arrival in Paris. This photograph was printed on a high-quality double-weight matte stock and features a beautiful period-appropriate sepia tint. It is in fine+ condition with a 0.75 in. diagonal crease on the top left corner. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws.
We do not know whether Mr. Allen had this photograph (from a series of similar photos that we are selling from this film) printed himself, so the quality is so nice, or whether he acquired them from another source.
