Four iconic buildings are represented on this Card, from left to right, the Lincoln Memorial, it's an American national monument built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. The Washington Monument, built to commemorate George Washington, commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and the first American president. The monument was damaged during the 2011 Virginia earthquake and Hurricane Irene in the same year and remained closed to the public while the structure was assessed and repaired. After 32 months of repairs, the National Park Service reopened the Washington Monument to visitors on May 12, 2014. About center is the U.S. Capitol building. This is the meeting place of the United States Congress, the legislature of the U.S. federal government. On September 18, 1793, first President George Washington, along with eight other Freemasons dressed in masonic regalia, laid the cornerstone as construction began. The Capitol held its first session of the United States Congress with both chambers in session on November 17, 1800. The far right is the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, an American Founding Father and the third President of the United States. Construction of the building began in 1939 and was completed in 1943. The fireworks are reflecting over the Reflecting Pool, the water pool between the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument within the National Mall.
