Item description
Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph of pantomimist, vaudeville and burlesque comedian, and motion picture actor JIMMY SAVO c.1930s. He is depicted in a close interior shot wearing a heavy fur coat with a black bowler and holding a wooden dumbbell while smoking a cigar. It is in very good condition as shown.
Jimmy Savo was born on July 31, 1892 in New York City, New York. He was an actor, known for CBS Television Workshop (1952), Merry-Go-Round of 1938 (1937) and Exclusive Rights (1926). He was a bowler-hatted, pint-sized vaudeville and burlesque comedian who began as a juggler and mime artist. Called by Charlie Chaplin the "best pantomimist in the world." Savo did indeed enjoy some success on Broadway, but his later attempts to break into films were a resounding failure.
He was married to Lina Farina Vecchi, Frances Victoria Browder and Joan Franza and eventually died on September 5, 1960 in Terni, Italy.
