Vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1920's silent film forest ranger-themed adventure drama, THE UNDERSTANDING HEART, released in 1927 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and directed by Jack Conway. Based on the novel by Peter B. Kyne, Monica Dale (Joan Crawford) is a fire lookout in love with Forest Ranger Tony Garland (Francis X. Bushman Jr.). Escaped killer Bob Mason (Rockliffe Fellowes) hides out in Monica's observatory and falls in love with her. A fire encircles them and is put out by rain. Bob finally gives her up to Tony and is cleared of his earlier crime. The cast includes Carmel Myers, Richard Carle, Jerry Miley, and Harvey Clark. The image features a dramatic shot as Monica Dale (Joan Crawford) tries to stop forest ranger Tony Garland (Francis X. Bushman Jr.) from entering a room as his gun is drawn. It is in fine+ condition with random signs of light wear in the borders; a dashed 4.5 in. long horizontal scratch near the bottom right above the border; and some very small creases simply from handling over time. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws and the image quality is very sharp with fine detail and great contrast. This is an interesting photograph from Crawford's silent film career at MGM.
