In my teens I used to put a keyring around my finger and wear bicycle chain around the neck (Well it was popular at the time). That phase of my life was short-lived, but the love of body ornament lived on. I decided to study the art of jewelry making for my post-secondary. The story's flat and I pursuit the my career as a designer right after.
In the next decade I collaborate with many different people, designing wide range of products, from commercial jewelry to private clients couture works. A big plus for me is to see the world quite a bit, I come from a small town and don't get to travel a lot, it was exciting at the time.
Gradually I realize I am living in someone's dream and not of my own. Times I feel like writing speeches for a congressman, lines are well prepared but not a voice of my own. At an era where most commercial activities are globalized and monopolized, the idea of working independently seems almost impossible.
But then I came across platform and community such as Bonanza. I was exposed to a diversity of genres, also astonished by the high level of craftsmanship. So here I am, with a good friend opening a shop! From sketch to assembly all done in our own studio. Jewelry are made with both traditional and new technique: for gold we mostly use lost-wax casting; and for stones we aim to invent our own setting technique. We use non orthodox setting methods to give our work a new look.
Jewelry is a form of expression. Life, we believe is all about freedom and independence. We want to live a dream of our own. After all, to live a life takes more than food and shelter!
"For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught." A quote from this very well known Sinatra sum up our spirit!
