Vintage Sterling Silver Lizard Gecko Brooch Pin Filigree Figural Animal Brooch Salamander Lacy Openwork Original Patina 925 Silver This is a lovely old Sterling Silver Filigree Pin or Brooch depicting a Lizard, Gecko or Salamander. It is marked on the back 925 for Sterling and weighs approximately 5.7 grams. Filigree refers to the process and design that uses twisted wire to create delicate, lacy, openwork jewelry. Filigree Jewelry is ornate in design, and requires hours of concentration on the part of its artist designer. It was extremely popular during the Art Deco period. This filigree piece has a wonderful old patina to it, I have not cleaned it. If you desire to do so, I'm sure a gentle cleaning will make it shine. The fine hand work is amazing and there is extreme detail to this sterling silver pin/brooch. It has a great 3-Dimensional design and the lizard has great character. The filigree is intact. The toes are bent (I did not want to try to change the shape and risk breaking anything). It measures almost 3 inches in length. It has the old pin on the back. The pin backing is securely attached and works just fine, although there is a bend in the pin (see pictures). It may have been made that way in order to fit in the clasp. This is handmade and it looks as though the artist made the pin bent due to the design. This spectacular pin with the wonderful workmanship would make a great treasured addition to your collection. It is rare to come across such an unusual handcrafted pin such as this. It would make a fantastic gift for anyone who collects figural brooches and Lizards as well.
