Pony Express Route Picture Map Rustic Art Print A fascinating picture map of the original Pony Express Route (1860-1861) It shows the journey from California, through the states of Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas to its destination St. Joseph, Missouri. With the rest / stopping stations. The Pony Express could cover the 1800 miles in 10 days, with a bit of luck. But a few weeks after this service started, the Overland Telegraph Company of California and the Pacific Telegraph Company of Nebraska started building a transcontinental telegraph wire line coast to coast. It was a much faster way to send messages, and so the Pony Express stopped in October 1861. This map was drawn by American artist and photographer William H. Jackson. He was often commissioned by the railroad companies to photograph new routes or stopping points along the railroad.
