Ven. Henriette DeLille ? Exclusive Vivid Photo Restoration! ? Archival Quality Print Born in 1812, Henriette DeLille was a free woman of color born into a privileged family who lived her life in New Orleans, Louisiana, surrounded by family and friends. In 1836, when she was 24, she had a deep religious experience which inflamed her faith, and she began what would be called the Society of the Holy Family. Their purpose was to serve the poor and infirm, and to catechize. In 1842 she founded the Sisters of the Holy Family for the same purpose, and it still exists today. She lived a holy, prayerful, and virtuous life, serving as a nun until the end. Her obituary said she "devoted herself untiringly for many years, without reserve, to the religious instruction of the people of New Orleans, principally of slaves . . . for the love of Jesus Christ she had become the humble and devout servant of the slaves." Her prayer was, "I believe in God. I hope in God. I love. I want to live and die for God."She was declared a Servant of God by Pope John Paul II in 1988, and Venerable by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. A miracle attributed to her intercession was approved by a medical board in 2013, advancing her cause towards Sainthood.
