See my other listings for other Brands, Models and Options. At TZ GOLF we specialize in vintage clubs and golf related items that have a cult like following, may be underrated in some circles, are beautiful to look at, have great performance, give a better value than overpriced new clubs and will help golfers have more fun style on the golf course. Acushnet/Titleist AC 108 Irons - 8 Club Set The first Acushnet irons debuted in 1970 and were known as the Finalist Forged irons. They were introduced to the market just one year after Acushnet (Titleist) purchased Golfcraft in 1969 to get into the space. If you are not familiar with the Golfcraft Company, it produced top-of-the-line forged clubs under a number of brands dating back to the 1940s. In fact, in 1966, three years before Acushnet purchased it, the Wall Street Journal called Golfcraft the largest golf club manufacturing company in the world. Beyond its own brands, it sold blank heads to some other manufacturers to do final finishing and shaping. If you have read other articles in this series, you might remember that back in 1961, a man named Karsten Solheim bought some blank Golfcraft heads and milled the backs out to produces the very first cavity back iron: the Ping Ballnamic ’69 (reference: Greatest Ben Hogan Irons of all Time). The purchase of Golfcraft made Acushnet an instant player in the category to complement its already strong position in the ball market. The AC 108, although small by today’s standards, offered a lot of playability for golfers looking for an alternative to traditional forged blades. One final fun fact about the AC 108, the branded Tungsten toe weights from the iron were used in the first prototype Scotty Cameron putters that had tungsten weighting. 1972 - The Acushnet Titleist AC 108 irons were slightly larger than other irons at the time and featured tungsten weight inserts in the heel and toe that significantly increased MOI, improving performance as well as feel on off-center hits. The AC 108s were among the first irons ever developed that were truly forgiving. The Acushnet Titleist AC 108 irons are some of the first irons Titleist ever produced and were introduced in 1972. These irons have tungsten weight inserts to enlarge the sweet spot to make them more forgiving. The head was slightly larger than other irons at the time to improve confidence at address. Like all Titleist irons that followed these clubs were made with exacting precision and attention to detail. Review: "I have a full set of these. 2 thru PW irons and four woods - driver, 3, 4 and 5. My dad and mom bought them for me for Christmas in 1974 when I made the high school varsity golf team my first year. I stopped playing them over 20 years ago. I always had face savers on the irons and covers on the woods. I had them re-gripped in the mid 80's. They were a very special gift." This vintage set is in exceptional condition, there are minimal scratches and no dings to speak of (see pictures), all have very dry, cracked grips, great looking shafts, as well as almost no groove wear. These irons will be a great set for play or as collectables for many years. The 7 iron is missing the toe side Tungsten weight. Vokey 48* PW has been added to complete the 8 club set. Acushnet True Temper Stiff Flex Steel shafts in excellent condition All the Golf Pride grips are dry and cracked. Grips were not replaced to preserve authenticity and originality. Grooves are sharp, clean, and deep Bid with confidence (100% positive feedback) Fast shipping Prices are based on the complete iron set. Compliment your purchase with an original Bullseye mallet or blade putter. https://www.ebay.com/itm/265496511516
