Item description

The Ways of Man; An Introduction to Many Cultures, Pupil Edition (1974 Hardcover) Senior Author: Bertha Davis Special Area Consultants: Stephen Blank; Morroe Berger; Igor Kopytoff; Richard D. Lambert; Samuel C. Chu; Edwin O. Reischauer Publisher: Macmillan Pubiishing Co., Inc., New York, NY U.S.A. 1974 Social Studies pupil textbook retied from a school system. Title 7 in the Jarolimek/Davis Focus on Active Leaning Social Studies series of 1974. Subject matter titled: "The West", "The Middle East", "Africa", "India", "China", and "Japan". Text is enhanced by photographs, art, maps, tables, charts and graphs. Assume developed for 7th grade because is 7th title listed and retired from a middle school circulation. Hardcover has full color illustrated cloth boards, but no dust jacket. No ownership on exterior of book, only front paste-down. Interior is tight and no writing found in text. Bottom page-edge has been wet, dried w/o affecting legibility. Ffep torn out. Size: 4to - over 9 - 12" tall, 530pp. Condition: Near Good Hardcover w/o Dust Jacket – Retired from Middle School Inventory Copyrights 1974, 1971. Assumed 2nd Edition, print-line 12-P. I interpret this as 12th printing of pupil version. ISBN: 0-02-280610-5, however, rear cover has Macmillan code 28061/6. No LCCN nor MSR. Notes on Condition/Edition ratings: Fine – means like new, but any book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new”. Booksellers needed some word to describe this... Like New – A new book, no marks no damage (except maybe remainder marks) except not obtained directly from the publisher or in packaging from the publisher. Very Good – How you or I might take care of a book, closer to “as new” than standard. Might show ownership. Good – How someone else might take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” The most likely condition for books of this age title, shows the book has been read or previously owned. Acceptable – How a child, student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to make sure someone doesn't steal it by plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or a book that has been damaged.) Poor – Combination of “acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as well. Might have missing pages (you should ask). Near – Means “almost” in an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on the high end. 1st Thus – Unique somehow, maybe 1st paperback, new illustrator, misprint or even the 1st edition. A collector might desire this copy. Thanks for looking!
