Item description

Edna Groff Diehl was a early 20th century resident of Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania where she was actively involved in the literary scene: providing readings of her books for children in the local libraries as well as her poetry. To this day a prize is awarded in her name (and from her endowment) for best poetry in Pennsylvania. Two stories of the "Little Would Nots" as the become "Little Want-to-Bes": cute young dogs and cats who stand out by being a bit different. Wonderfully expressive color lithographs illustrate these tales. The Would Not's are scarce enough in the wild, but we found only one copy of the Want to Be's available on line, listing at $750.00. The book is comprised of two stories, released separately in the format used by Little Golden Books some 20 years after these were published. Standard sized oversized book. Gabriel moved to Racine, Wis. when they merged with Loeb (another publisher of books for children) which was located there. Together, they evolved into Western Press and took over the Little Golden Book franchise in the mid 50's.
