Seele began his diary while he was still a student in Germany in the fall of 1842. He maintained it for the most part on a daily basis. Seele?s diary is the only comprehensive account of the German settlement of Texas per se, comprising a day to day journal of the beginning of Seele?s interest in immigration, his journey to Bremen, the voyage to Texas, the arrival and stay in Galveston, his year in the Gulf region where he worked on both German and Anglo homesteads, Seele?s participation in the founding of New Braunfels, and the aftermath of the settlement period, with the beginning of the Civil War and the courtship of his future wife, Mathilde Blum. The book is complete and in FINE condition with some overall light wear mainly to the dustjacket. There are a couple of dog-eared pages in the book.
