Item description

Presented in a beautiful Arts and Crafts style frame, this handsome rendition of a young man singing while holding his hymnal or caroling book was painted in 1952, at the height of this artist's career. Nunzio La Spina (1900-1988) was born in Palermo, Sicily, and emigrated to America in July of 1914. His Portrait of Lillian, submitted to the Salons of America exhibition at New York’s Rockefeller Center in April of 1934, received a favorable review from Edward Jewell, the art critic for The New York Times. In the early 1940s, he completed work on a mural decoration for the ceiling in the lobby of the Psychiatric Building of Bellevue Hospital. He was one of over a dozen artists commissioned by the Federal Art Project. Oil on canvasboard 16" x 12". FREE SHIPPING!
