About the Manufacturer
Based in Carlsbad California as part of the Callaway Golf Company, the Odyssey brand of putters first entered the scene in 1990 and has been bringing new product innovations ever since. Beginning in 1991 with their ?mallet? putters, featuring resilient material inserts called ?stronomic? In the following years Odyssey?s Tour popularity increased dramatically to become the ?#1 Putter in Golf? 1995 saw 300 top 10 finishes on the PGA TOUR for Odyssey. Among their most recognized design innovations to date are the 2 Ball White Hot putter and the DFX.
Odyssey DFX 2-Ball Blade Putter - 35"
Odyssey Golf has been on a roll since April of 1996. Though that spring?s Masters is better remembered as the year Greg Norman lost a six-shot lead in the final round, equipment buffs remember it for the putter craze set off by winner Nick Faldo. Nick wielded a Dual Force Rossie 2 to great effect, and the ?insert? putter niche was crafted.
Odyssey, a Callaway Golf brand, is almost always the first or second ranked putter each week in the Darrell Survey, and their tagline ?#1 putter in Golf? is true for many ? visit your local muni and you?re bound to find plenty of 2-Balls or 2-Ball knockoffs. The insert market is, for the most part, owned by Odyssey, despite attempts by nearly every other putter manufacturer to best company with the hurricane-like logo.
Design and Technology
Sorry to be boring, but there?s no doubt about it: the Odyssey 2-Ball is the benchmark against which all putters of the type have to be judged.
In a test like this, where you?re using many different putters over several hours, it leaps out at you. While most of the others have their idiosyncrasies, the 2-ball is simplicity itself. You just set the two discs down behind your ball on the line of your putt, pull the head back and fire. Chances are, your next task is to pick the ball out of the hole. On short putts it teaches you to go back and through with no twisting, while over longer distances the clever back weighting helps you roll the ball all the way to the hole with ease.
The DFX Blade is the latest version, darker and slightly firmer than the White Hot insert, with a more angular shape and offset shaft than the original 2-Ball mallet.
Whichever model you prefer, you won?t be alone: the 2-Ball was almost certainly the best-selling putter in the world last year, accounting for one in four putters sold in America. Stats like those don?t happen by hype alone.
Despite what once seemed like and exorbitant price, the 2-Ball has sold in its hundreds of thousands ? because it really makes putting easier.
Increased Moment of Inertia for serious forgiveness and truer roll.
Co-molded insert and face cavity eliminate surface variations to provide consistent performance.
Rich finish that reduces glare.
2-Ball Alignment System
The legendary design provides a Tour-proven visual aid that makes lining up putts easier and more accurate.
Nickel Finish
Creates a rich, premium look for the utmost in confidence.
REVIEW: "I got this putter used off.
Looks as new though the dark paintjob has a few chips on the putter face (seems a problem with this type), Also the grip felt really silky smooth, but looks like new. Again seems normal for these grips.
I have just used a normal blade putter. But putting for me is quite tough. Alignment, length, lie of the green. Always mess something up. Was thinking of buying one of a special/gimmick putter. My friends don't believe in them. They all use blades. Been looking at the Odysseys, Yes C groove putters like tiffany and also the TM Spider. New the prices are quite expensive.
In the end bought the Odyssey because I got a great deal.
I found the 2ball is great with alignment of the putts. I am a believer. You need to practice doing it. But once you get the hang of it...very useful. Worrying about the correct length and lie of the greens is tough enough for me. Now when I putt I can have confidence with alignment.
I think if you are a newbie and want to play some rounds...putters should not be overlooked or underestimated. They are quite expensive, but buying secondhand should find you a quality putter for a decent price.
Will give this putter 5 stars for both value and overall. Overall the relatively weak paintjob and very slick grip merits bit lower overall rating, on the other hand this putter deserves 10 stars for value rating.
Best club in my bag."
