Vintage original 27x41 in. US ones-sheet poster from the hit 1970's boxing-themed romantic comedy, THE MAIN EVENT, released in 1979 by Warner Bros. and directed by Howard Zieff. A bankrupt entrepreneur (Barbra Streisand) attempts to recoup some of her losses by getting a washed-out boxer (Ryan O'Neal) she picked up as a tax loss back into the ring - an idea her protégé isn't fond of. The cast includes Paul Sand, Whitman Mayo, Patti D'Arbanville, Chu Chu Malave, and James Gregory. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, this vintage original one-sheet is in very fine condition without any pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws. The Main Event became one of the top twenty highest grossing films of the 1979 year at the box-office. Diana Ross was the original intended star and, according to a Streisand biography, Ross left the project after her brief affair with Ryan O'Neal turned sour. Producer Jon Peters, who was Barbra Streisand's boyfriend at the time, has since said, "I talked Barbra into doing that ("The Main Event"). It was time for us to do another film and I felt a comedy was the best way to go." It was the second of two star collaborations between Ryan O'Neal and Barbra Streisand (the first had been What's Up, Doc? (1972) about seven years earlier). Reportedly, O’Neal and Streisand once had a personal relationship prior to making this movie. Streisand reportedly directed at least one scene in this movie herself (the sequence with both leads fishing and walking in the snow) after director Howard Zieff vetoed them. O'Neal trained extensively for the role of a boxer in this film. O'Neal once said: "I had to box one hundred and fifty rounds just to prepare for this movie." Streisand's music on the soundtrack represented the music performer's first recordings into the genre of disco music.
