Item description

St. Rose of Lima ? Based on a Vintage Holy Card ? 3 sizes ? Catholic Gift ? Archival Quality St. Rose of Lima (1586-1617) was the first canonized Saint of the New World. Born in Lima, Peru, to Spanish parents, Rose early took Catherine of Sienna as her model. Like Catherine, she practiced strong mortifications, and even rubbed hot peppers on her face to make herself less beautiful. Her parents wouldn't let here join the convent; instead, they pressed her to marry. But she felt she already was, so intense was her devotion to Christ. She stayed at home, and again like Catherine, joined the Third Order of Saint Dominic. She set up a room in the house which she used to care for homeless children and other people in need. She became widely known in Lima as a very holy person, despite earlier objections, and when she died at age 31, most of Lima showed up at her funeral. She had mystical visions in her short life, including of the Child Jesus, whom she said had taught her how to read while she was just a little child. Feast Day: August 23. Patron of Latin America, embroiderers, gardeners, florists, and for the resolution of family conflicts, among others. (source: franciscanmedia.org)This print from a restored holy card shows Rose holding the Child Jesus, as she had devoted her life to Him. We love the colors of this print. ** IMPORTANT ** The image is smaller than the paper! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11, or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures.
