St. Maximilian Kolbe ? Younger ? Restored Photograph ? 3 sizes ? Catholic Art Print
St. Maximilian Kolbe -- YoungerRestored Photograph This is our favorite picture of St. Kolbe (1894-1941). We think it is from the late 1920s. At that time he was publishing his Marian newspaper, with a circulation of 230,000, and his Marian magazine, which had a circulation of 1,000,000. These were vehicles of his Militia Immaculata, or Army of Mary, which he had founded. We think this picture is taken a few years before he founded a monastery in Nagasaki, Japan. Almost every picture of St. Kolbe shows that same intense gaze. It is so purposeful. At an early age, in 1906, he had a vision of the Virgin Mary. She offered him two crowns, a white one for a life of purity, and a red one for martyrdom. He told her he wanted both. And after that, it seems every moment was in the service of God. Over the years, while the intensity of his gaze remains, the tone of the look changes. In this one he still has some of that sweetness of youth, and yet, as in later photos, he seems to be almost looking at us from Heaven. We may be projecting this, but it seems there is a plea in his look which asks, My friend, do you still not see the ways of God? (sources: fatherjulian.blogspot.com, www.britannica.com)We hope this exclusive restored photograph helps draw you closer to our Saint, and thus closer to our Lord. St. Kolbe is the patron saint of drug addicts, political prisoners, families, journalists, prisoners and the pro-life movement. + + + + + + + +** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER!
