Item description

This listing is for a 5ml Silica Aerogel Sample. The Silica Aerogel is in particles as pictured and is packaged in a 5ml glass sample container with screw on cap. Aerogel, (also referred to as "frozen smoke") is the lightest and lowest density solid that is currently known to exist. It holds the current World Record for being the best insulator and the lowest density solid. Aerogel is composed of amorphous Silicon Dioxide, and 99.8% air. It has a density of 3 milligrams per cubic centimeter which is only 3 times the weight of air. It has a melting point of 2,200 degrees F (1,200 degrees C). Warnings: Avoid contact with skin (contact with the skin may produce a drying sensation and irritation. Wash hands after contact). Do not ingest (Aerogel is essentially non-toxic but ingestion can cause mechanical irritation and blockage. If ingested, the material will usually pass through the body normally)
