In 'Funny Face' (1957), Jo Stockton (Hepburn) is a bookshop worker with intellectual pretensions. Discovered by the editor of a top fashion magazine and asked to become the figurehead of a new collection, Jo is talked into going to Paris by magazine photographer Dick Avery (Fred Astaire), and they soon become romantically involved. The film features George and Ira Gershwin songs and pokes fun at both the shallow world of fashion and the pretentions of the Beat Generation movement.
