Item description

Brand new factory sealed 2-disc dvd of a Russian language film with optional English subtitles. Full screen (1.33:1) aspect ratio as originaly shot, special edition. Andrei Tarkovsky tells of a mysterious Zone that has appeared (by way of a meteorite?) in the middle of a country that has become an industrial wasteland. It is forbidden to enter the Zone, but a STALKER, one of a small group of outlaws that are able to safely navigate the Zone, acts as a guide to a writer and a scientist who want to find "the Room" that can make dreams come true and which is said to be in the heart of the Zone. However, the Zone is also presented as full of traps and as a terrain that constantly moves and changes in the presence of humans. When, after an anxiety ridden journey, they arrive at the threshold of the Room, the professor wants to destroy it in case it is misused and the writer fears to go in because his fantasies may be unworthy. The three confusedly scuffle with each other before returning to prosaic reality. Knowing what the special place offers, the intrepid voyagers turn back, prefering to keep the fantasy of there being such a place rather than enter it. Back with his family, the stalker bemoans his isolation and complains that soon no-one will share his faith in the Room. A haunting and honest meditation on the intersection of science, feeling, and faith. The movie recalls the imagination of Philip K. Dick and the movie 'Annihilation' with Natalie Portman seems to be a high-tech re-imagining of this idea.
