Item description
SEARCH FOR TH GALLEON'S GOLD!
by Ruth Adams Knight
Illustrated by Algot Stenbery
New York: Whittlesey House/McGraw-Hill Book Company, Inc.
(1956).
First edition, first
printing.
Sweet copy of this juvenile treasure-hunt adventure tale told
through the experiences of two Spanish youths, Miguel and Sanchez, who
sailed as pages on the Florencia, the flagship of the Armada, and Donald
and Alan, sons of the Scottish Clan MacLean.
This describes a segment of Scottish history as it might have happened
in the wake of the attempt made on England by the Spanish Armada in
1588. Prompted by a current attempt on the Isle of Mull to locate the
wreck of Florencia, a galleon believed to be sunk in Tobermory Bay.
Ms. Knight wrote numerous fiction and non-fiction books for teenagers, focusing each fictional story on a specific problem or challenge a teen might have, several with international settings based on current world events.
The author also wrote for adults, but was most known for writing thousands of radio and television scripts, including for the series: Brave Tomorrow; Cavalcade of America; Aunt Jennie; and Dr. Christian.
Fine, in blue cloth with black spine lettering; in a nearly fine, faintly
age-toned, very lightly rubbed pictorial dust jacket that has been
neatly price-clipped by the publisher, with a publisher rubber-stamped price of
$3.50 to the upper front flap. Map-decorated endsheets.
A very elusive title by the author of BRAVE COMPANIONS (the story of a blind soldier and a seeing-eye dog)!
