Ruski Arhiv (Russian Archive) was a historical journal published in Belgrade, Serbia in 1929. The journal was dedicated to the history of Russia and its relations with the Balkans and other European countries. It was published in Serbian, but many of its articles were written by Russian historians and scholars.
The journal was founded by Serbian and Russian intellectuals, including the famous historian Stanoje Stanojevi? and the Russian historian Michael P. Dragomanov. Its first issue was published in May 1929, and it continued to be published until 1941 when the German occupation of Yugoslavia forced its closure.
Ruski Arhiv was an essential source of information on Russian history and culture and the political and cultural relations between Russia and the Balkans. Its articles covered a wide range of topics, including the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, Russian literature and art, and the role of Russia in the First World War.
Stanoje Stanojevi? wrote one of the most significant articles published in Ruski Arhiv. The topic was the question of the origins of the Slavs. Stanojevi? argued that the Slavs were an ancient and distinct people, with their own language and culture, who had migrated to the Balkans from the east in the early centuries AD. This theory challenged the prevailing view at the time, which held that the Slavs were a relatively recent arrival in the Balkans, having migrated from the north in the 6th and 7th centuries AD.
Overall, Ruski Arhiv was a valuable source of information and ideas for scholars and intellectuals interested in Russian and Balkan history. Its articles continue to be studied and cited to this day.
