Item description

? You are purchasing ONE dormant Red Lake Currant Plant, approximately 3-4 inches tall. This plant is sent with its root ball wrapped in soil and plastic to preserve moisture. Plants will be securely packed in a box for shipping. USDA Hardiness Zones: 3-7. Self-pollinating. You will receive a plant rooted from cuttings/division, and I will select the largest plant available for shipment. ? Known for its cold hardiness, the Red Lake Currant can bear up to 3-4 quarts of fruit at maturity. This compact, deciduous shrub grows to 4-6 feet tall and typically produces a large yield of plum-red currants on two-year-old wood, with fruit often appearing in the second year after planting. The 8-10 inch clusters of dark red berries are easy to pick and ideal for preserves. The compact bushes make attractive garden hedges, with showy, bright red fruits and aromatic leaves. ? Large, juicy red berries ripen from late spring through summer. While slightly tart, they are rich in vitamin C and can be eaten fresh. The berries also attract birds and are perfect for making jellies, jams, and desserts. Red Lake Currant is highly resistant to White Pine Blister Rust and grows best in rich, well-drained soil. ? Currants and Gooseberries can be alternate hosts to White Pine Blister Rust, which may make them illegal to ship to certain states (including parts of DE, MA, ME, MI, MT, NH, OH, RI, VA, WV, and all of NC). If you live in these states, please confirm legality with your local agriculture department before purchase, as permits may be required. We are not responsible for plants confiscated by local authorities. ? Your order will arrive in good condition. If any issues occur during transit, please contact us the same day with a description and pictures of the issue for assessment.
