ANTIQUES has frequently remarked that the wise collector, whether he is an expert or a novitiate, may discover cause for rejoicing in the existing prevalence of low prices. The comment is, however, deserving of repetition -- particularly at this season, when the world has awakened ,from its summer lethargy. In the autumn the house owner remembers his desire to redecorate, and the collector brings new zest to the pursuit of things antique. There could be no better time to satisfy old yearnings, for much of excellence is being offered, and at reasonable prices. Yet it must not be forgotten that something worthless acquired for a song is not a bargain. By keeping its readers informed of auetions conducted by responsible persons and acquainting them with reliable dealers, ANTIQUES hopes to safeguard them against unnecessary disappointments.
