Item description

I have had this for some time and never could manage to get photos I liked. It struck me today to try a rubbing; that didn't help much, but it convinced me to go ahead with the listing. With a bit of photo editing you should be able to get an idea. But I would also ask you to trust the description regarding the visual and you will not be disappointed. The lead photo shows the molded side (no label) as it appears to the eye, which is glossy black and beautiful. The last two images were taken on a scanner and they were manipulated after to bring out the pattern and let you see it. The real beauty however is in the way the light plays off the many details, and you get a taste of this in the lead photo. Purely one of the most striking and beautiful pieces of vinyl you will ever see and I mean that literally. Even if you never saw a record before it is gorgeous. It has "RCA Victor" in huge letters going around top and most of it, at the bottom the RCA logo with "His Master's Voice" and to set it all off in what can only be termed the fantastic is a mesmerizing spider web pattern. It doesn't get any better. No pic disc, colored vinyl or anything will surpass it. Also represents a great part of American history namely the ascension of the Detroit car industry. The audio side is made to accompany a film strip or possibly a slide show; I think it is meant for the sales staff. Probably part of a series, this dates to October of 1939 and discusses the superior GM "Plate Glass" form of safety glass. Unusual speed for the time namely 33 1/3 which at that date was only found on school, library or institutional players and used for spoken word and educational records. Visually the record is Excellent except for minor scuffing on the label. I played it through on a newer turntable and there was background noise although not bad. It isn't scratched and for all I know I am the first one who ever played it, wouldn't that be something. Crossover items are always a good buy. Crossover meaning that this has appeal to both car collectors and record collectors. It is a rare item; I have never seen anybody else with one (other, of course, than whomever I got it from long ago). Comes in a plain sleeve. Rare, beautiful, historical and very cool. You should go for it. See shipping calculator for rates to your address. Grading of LP record albums: Mint: Not part of our vocabulary in general, but would refer to a sealed unopened record. Near Mint: Looks brand new. Near Mint minus: Very close to new, appears to have been played possibly a few times. Perhaps a few tiny blemishes. Very Fine or Excellent: Still close to new and only slightly used, a few faint marks or sleeve scratches. Only if the music level is soft is it possible to hear a hint of surface static. Very Good plus: Light scratches possible but nothing even close to bad. Surface noise is generally not heard during the music. Very Good: May have a number of light scratches but still nothing bad. Surface noise can generally be heard during the music but does not interfere with it. note: Few record albums made in the 50's or 60's actually play any better than VG or VG+ regardless of their appearance. Very Good minus: The surface noise rivals the music. Good plus: No awful scratches but will have a lot of them. Surface noise has overtaken the music. Good: Still plays, can't say much more for it. Jackets Sleeves are graded by standard paper criteria such as would be used for comic books or trading cards.
