Rare 1964 PLAYBILL Clarence Williams "SLOW DANCE ON THE KILLING GROUND" FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE USA, BUT I WILL SHIP WORLDWIDE AT BUYERS EXPENSE HERE FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS AN RARE 1964 PLAYBILL "SLOW DANCE ON THE KILLING GROUND" S A ORIGINAL AND AUTHENTIC PLAYBILL FOR THE HIGHLY ACCLAIMED 1964 THEATRICAL PLAY "SLOW DANCE ON THE KILLING GROUND" STARRING GEORGE ROSE, CLARENCE WILLIAMS, CAROLAN DANIELS. AT THE PLYMOUTH THEATRE 1964 Slow Dance on the Killing Ground featuring George Rose opens at the Plymouth Theatre. Hume Cronyn is co-producer of this William Hanley play about people associated with murder and death. Joseph Anthony directs the eleven-week run. The son of a musician, African American actor Clarence Williams III was raised by his grandmother. While attending his local YMCA branch as a teenager, Williams became interested in dramatics. After a two-year hitch with the Air Force, he began his acting career, making his New York debut in 1960's The Long Dream. Williams amassed an impressive list of Broadway credits, and in 1966 was artist in residence at Brandeis University. Still, he remained an unknown commodity in Hollywood until 1968, when he was cast as "hip" undercover cop Linc Hayes on the popular TVweekly The Mod Squad. After the series' cancellation in 1973, Williams divided his time between stage and film work, occasionally functioning as a director. Among his better-known assignments of recent years was the role of Prince 's father in Purple Rain (1984) and the recurring part of Roger Hardy in the cult TV series Twin Peaks (1990). Clarence Williams III is married to actress Gloria Foster. British actor George Rose studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama. He briefly worked as a farmer and secretary, then decided to have another go at acting. After wartime service and a round of studies at Oxford, Rose made his Old Vic stage debut in 1946. He spent most of the 1950s in such broad comedy roles as Dogberry in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing; in 1952 he appeared in his first film, The Pickwick Papers. In 1961, Rose co-starred in the original production of Robert Bolts A Man For All Seasons, playing the ubiquitous Common Man (a character excised from the 1966 film version). From 1966 onward, Rose appeared primarily in American plays and films. He was also one of the stars of the expensive 1975 TV series Beacon Hill, an ill-advised attempt to mimic the success of Upstairs Downstairs; he played the "Bridges" counterpart, a head butler named Hacker. Rose won the coveted Tony Award for his work in the 1975 revival of My Fair Lady and the 1985 musical The Mystery of Edwin Drood. American talk-show fans of the 1970s and 1980s came to know and love Rose as one of the foremost Gilbert and Sullivan purveyors in the English-speaking world. For a person who brought so much pleasure to so many people, George Rose came to a tragic and deplorable end; in 1988, he was savagely beaten to death by his adopted son and three other men just outside his summer home in the Dominican Republic.
