Item description

Antique Cabinet Card Photograph. Identified on reverse side as, "Dr. A.F. Chase, President of the E.M.C. Sem. (Seminary), Bucksport, Maine, Spring '92." Photo by Walsh Studio, Trenton, New Jersey. This comes from a collection of photographs of students and staff of the Eastern Maine Conference Seminary in Bucksport, Maine. Measures approximately 4.25 x 6.5 including mount. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a reproduction. It is in excellent condition. History: In 1848 the Eastern Maine Conference of the Methodist Church held its first meeting in Bangor and proposed the establishment of a seminary, which was a preparatory school. Bucksport offered the land and raised $25,000 for the project. East Maine Conference Seminary opened in August 1851 to a class of 13 boys and 14 girls. It closed in 1933.
