This quirky French poster advertising shoes, was the creation of Leonetto Cappiello in 1903. Born in April 1875, he was an Italian poster artist who lived in Paris, France, and was regarded as the father of modern advertising posters. He had no formal art training, but was a popular caricaturist artist in Paris and he created illustrations for several of the French magazines and publications of that time. He became a leading advertising artist as his concept was to use unconventional images and shades, to create a visual impact that would grab an audience quickly. And it worked.
