This novel was adapted for a 1915 silent film titled THE LITTLE DUTCH GIRL directed by Emile Chautard, and a silent film in 1920 titled TWO LITTLE WOODEN SHOES directed by Sidney Morgan. First set in the Netherlands, it features a foundling girl who grows up poor and sweet, becomes a model for, and enamored with a painter who moves to Belgium. When the girl, Bebee, hears the painter is ill, she walks to Belgium to offer him aid and comfort.
