Just check out the deliciously enticing verbiage on the front cover, as well as the by-lines attributed to several of the authors of the articles inside: "GLORIA BALZAC" (perhaps a close relative of the better known French novelist HONORE De BALZAC?); or "PAULA VERLAINE" (perhaps the twin sister of the French poet PAUL VERLAINE?); or "THOMAS F. WALLER" (could it be jazz pianist THOMAS F. "FATS" WALLER!); or "CHARLES B. PARKER" (could it really be jazz saxophonist CHARLES "BIRD" PARKER?); or "FREDERICK DOUGLAS" (more commonly spelled FREDERICK DOUGLASS, African American writer) ; or "JEAN DEBS" (no doubt a close relative of Socialist Party leader EUGENE DEBS); or "PETER STAVROGIN (apparently a combination of the names PYOTR VERKHOVENSKY and NIKOLAI STAVROGIN, from the novel THE DEMONS, by FYODOR DOSTOEVSKY); or "BESSIE SMITH" (is it the same BESSIE SMITH who used to sing blues songs?); or "MABEL RAINEY" (better known as "MA" RAINEY).
