To wear: you place the center of the belt at the front of your waist then wrap around to the back where you criss cross and bring the ties to the front to be tied into a bow. The fabric for these is handwoven on back strap and foot treadle looms by highly skilled Mexican Artisans, a technique that has been practiced by the people of Mexico for hundreds of years since first introduced by the Spanish Conquistadores. Then their artist freehand draws the designs on the fabric. It is then embroidered using free motion embroidery and a treadle sewing machine, where they manually make fast back and forth movements as it is being stitched...a very creative and highly skilled art form in itself...very unlike factory computerized machine embroidery. If you look very closely at the designs you are sure to see some of the outline of the white pencil used in drawing the designs.
