Antique Carte de Visite (CDV) Photograph. Depicting a young Martha Elizabeth Hay who later married William Gooder. Photo most likely taken in Burlington, Wisconsin before she was married and moved to Kansas. Comes with handwritten photo album identifier as shown. Measures approximately 2.5 x 3.75 including mount. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a copy or reproduction. It is in excellent condition. Comments: William Gooder was born April 10, 1852 in Dover, Racine Co., Wisconsin and died May 8, 1922 in Phillips Co., Kansas. His parents were Job Gooder (1819-1892) and Ann Haigh Gooder (1814-1898). The siblings of William included Sarah Gooder Cockroft (1842-1912), John Wilbur Gooder (1847-1929), Betsy Ann Gooder Lewis (1849-1912), and Emma Gooder Broxson (1854-1938). He married Martha Elizabeth Hay Gooder in 1878. She was born March 17, 1854 in Raymond, Racine Co., Wisconsin and died July 9, 1927 in Phillips Co., Kansas. She was the daughter of John Hay (1824-1870) and Hannah Bottomley Hay (1830-1893). Her siblings included Andrew Hay, Edwin Bottomley Hay, Jane Hay Ball, Margaret Hay Foxwell, Thomas Hay, Selina Hay, Henry Dixon Hay, Alfred E. Hay, and John George Hay. The children of William and Martha included Cyril Thomas Gooder (1887-1979) and Elmer H. Gooder (1895-1952). Additional Comments: The photo(s) in this listing were removed from a set of three antique albums originally belonging to Newton Henry Bottomley (1880-1967) and his wife Edna May Hay (1887-1976) who lived in Price, Wisconsin. Many of the other album photos, which are sold separately, were taken in Racine Co. Wisconsin and included Bottomley and related families Sheard, Gooder, Hay, Burns, Skewes, and Hoyt.
