Item description

Pre-viewed for quality and plays fine. Cassette and box looks like new. Full screen is perfect for old school televisions as it will fill your square frame. Out Of Print (OOP) in all formats except pricey blu-ray. When legendary folk music producer/promoter Irving Sheinbloom dies, his neurotic son Johnathan organizes 60s-era folk musicians into getting back together for a reunion concert to be broadcast on public television as a tribute to his father's favorite acts. They include the earnest, WASPy trio The Folksman; nine-member, terminally perky cult/troupe New Main Street Singers; and former marrieds Mitch and Mickey. Parts reminded me of the old Lawrence Welk shows. The stars actually wrote and performed the music. Too young to remember folk? Don't worry. Good satire done right is worth a look, no matter what the subject is. The songs are the best part, especially if you pay close attention to the lyrics. Think of Adam Sandler or Al Yankovich doing folk songs, funny. Played with deadpan seriousness. Virtually all of the excellant ensemble cast from 'Best in Show' returns, with co-writer Eugene Levy (American Pie) standing out as the depressed Mitch.
