Item description
Box cover is nice and glossy with a small sticker varnish lift on the lower left corner. Both spines also have a crease down them. Cassette has store branded security stickers on both endcaps and a long one across the spine asssuring you of first generation quality. Pre-viewed for quality and plays fine on my Fisher vcr in glorious Black White photography which won the Oscar. Full frame version is perfect for old school televisions as the image will fill your square screen.
Featuring nearly every star on the Warner Brothers lot. The plot revolves around the amorous battle between king Oberon (Victor Jory) and queen Titania (Anita Louise) of a fairy kingdom, and the humans who are drawn into their sport. A tour de force of imagery, chicanery, and magic--especially when the woodland's elves and fairies intervene.
Stars James Cagney as Bottom, the hapless weaver who is turned into a donkey before the night is through. The incredible cast also boasts 11-year-old Mickey Rooney as the mischievious fairy Puck, with his penchant for casting spells on the "real Folk", and, in her screen debut, the exquisite Olivia De Havilland as a Grecian beauty involved in an ill-fated romance with the very mortal Dick Powell. Everyone is over the top with the acting and when the wood fairies, unicorns, elves, etc. show up it gets even better. Especially the stunt wire work with the fairies flying.
This version is slightly abridged without intermission, entre exit music and is still long at 117 minutes. Erich Wolfgang Korngold arranged the Mendelssohn music. There are silent films based on the play, including several made in Germany. Some later versions are dance films, cartoons, and TV movies.
