This book is a true story about a slave who gave his house to save the only school in Santa Cruz CA in 1860 just before he died. Santa Cruz City School was in need on of money, and was going to close two schools in 2003 since knowing about this story, and there being a Louden Center in Santa Cruz I [Franklin Marshall] wrote this book as a tool to get out the vote helping to pass a bill to raise money through a tax to keep these schools open.
