Item description

Antique Real Photo Postcard, circa 1930s. Identified as the Old Spiral Highway near Lewiston, Idaho. Divided back, AZO stampbox, unused. Condition: This is an original photo postcard, not a copy or reproduction. It is in excellent condition although a bit light in contrast. Comments: Located in Lewiston, the Old Spiral Highway, aka "The Old Lewiston Grade" is only 7.3 miles long. Originally constructed in 1917, this historic road takes 64 turns and traverses 2000 feet of elevation change. It was considered a huge feat in engineering at the time and a breakthrough in early highway construction. It is said to be one of the best motorcycle roads in Idaho. The very twisty road (64 curves) is short, is curvy, is smooth, and is most definitely sweet. It's best attempted by those who don't get dizzy very easily.
