Item description
KIOWA, TEXAS: A NOVEL
By Terry Cauley (Troy J. Cauley)
5.75" x 8.75", 160 page hardcover with dustjacket, Nortex Press, First Edition, Copyright 1968
A collection of hilarious stories from a small Texas town in the 1920s. In Brown's Drug-Store on the north side of the courthouse square, Cary McKelvey, a boy just out of high school and waiting to attend law school at the University of Texas, views the scene from the vantage point of his job as soda jerk, sales clerk, and amateur practitioner of internal medicine, minor surgery, obstetrics, and career counseling. He lets us in on a lot of what he sees and hears on a daily basis in Kiowa, Texas, a ?sleepy town? with much more going on behind the scenes than the casual observer might expect.
Essentially a series of short stories about the happenings in a mythical, but typical, small West Texas town in the front side of the 20th century from the point of view of an older man recounting his experiences growing up there. Kiowa, Texas may not actually exist, but if you have family from or have spent any meaningful time in small, West Texas towns you will find a comfortable familiarity with the characters and some pleasure in reading the parts of the stories that Mimi and Pappy left out when they told them to you!
The book is complete and in GOOD - VERY GOOD condition with some overall wear mainly to the dustjacket which has some soiling, edge wear, a small hole, and tanning on the spine. On the front free endpaper, the author has inscribed, "To: Jack and Shirley - From: Terry Cauley". (see pictures)
