Item description
To Kill A Mockingbird
Harper Lee
This faithful reproduction dust jacket is for the first edition (and early printings by Lippincott) by John Anthony Miller at his graphic studio in Ventura, California. No book is included.
Artist Statement: This original dust jacket issued with the book was digitally scanned and restored by myself Your jacket will be trimmed and folded on the actual book (unless requested to be sent flat},
enclosed in a Mylar jacket protector. It has been printed with archival
inks on acid-free 120GSM paper. The inks I use for these reproduction dust jackets will not fade over time and will last for well over one hundred years. Each jacket is printed by myself.. Sometimes there is a backlog of orders that may force a slight delay. I am geared for quality and not quantity as an artist. The materials I use are fairly expensive and the process of construction and printing are time-consuming as well.
I indicate on the jacket that it is not an original dust jacket, but a reproduction jacket, usually on the rear jacket folding panel.
If you wish for me to sign your jacket on the verso edge in pencil, I will do this as some purchasers have requested this. If you need to receive a jacket by a specific date let me know when you purchase the item.
I am well known in the art world, specifically for my miniature etchings and engravings. My work is for sale by someone every day and you can do a search using my full name. Here are a few comments about my work pertaining to reproduction dust jackets, cited here by well-known persons. Comments about the quality of my work can be seen on my feedback.
Here are a few:
"John's unique artistry was evident as soon as I saw The Great
Gatsby dust jacket. Having seen scores of facsimile jackets, John's
work is in a completely different league. The rich tonal quality of
the colors is breathtaking and the weight of the paper is carefully
considered. He satisfied the needs of the most demanding client, even
during a personally trying time. I look forward to doing continued
business with him in the future and give him my highest
recommendation." Ryan Dohm, Profiles in History
John Anthony Miller's highly detailed etchings and engravings is in many places around the world such as The Smithsonian Institution, Chicago Art
Science Industry, The Carnegie Art Museum, Chicago Art Institute,
Clarke Humanities Museum at Scripps College, President Obama, The
Ambassador to The People's Republic of China, The Queen's Dollhouse in England, etc.
COLLEEN MOORE: "You are a such a magnificent artist!" - Colleen Moore, silent screen and motion picture star, 1982.
MAURICE SENDAK: "Thank you for the lovely etchings!" - Maurice Sendak, Children's book illustrator, 1981
SIFU MANUEL RODRIGUEZ: "John Anthony Miller is a gifted artist." -
Master M. Rodriguez, Red Dragon Classical Guitar and Kung Fu Academy and
Olympic Trainer of Martial Artists. 2010
FREDERICK GRUE: "John Anthony Miller is a true professional." -
Frederick Grüe 1979, World's Premiere Still Life Painter. John Anthony
Miller studied painting under this great still life painter.
JOHNNY CASH: "I like your work very much." -Johnny Cash , 1978, Legendary Country Singer Musician. He was referring to a mountain man litho of mine that he hung in his log cabin.
WILLIAM F. NOLAN: "The unique art of John Anthony Miller is a joy to
behold. His wondrous talent shines, diamond-bright, from each work...a
talent to cherish." -William F. Nolan 2009, co-author of "Logan's Run"
GEORGE CLAYTON JOHNSON: "When I first saw your art it blew my mind. Just incredible!" George co-authored "Logan's Run" as well writing original scripts for The Twilight Zone, Star Trek and many others. I was working on "Frankenstein project" with George Clayton Johnson that was never completed due to his passing.
RAY BRADBURY: "(edited)...how wonderful and what a genius you are. You
have an incredible talent, John, and I hope you know that...All my love,
Ray." -Ray Bradbury 2010. Ray Bradbury is the author of "Fahrenheit
451", recipient of France's
highest medal of artistic honor and White House Medal of Honor in The
Creative Arts. Ray Bradbury loved my dust jacket work and bought
well over two dozen of them in the latter years of his lifetime for his
own books and those books in his library.
