Item description

Vintage 8x10 Black and White Photograph, dated 1956. Identified as Massachusetts Governor Christian A. Herter on a tour of Gorton's of Glouchester with company president (left) Frederick M. Bundy. Stamped on back Fay Foto Service, Inc. of Boston. Also included is the original caption and short press release by "Food Business." Measures approximately 8x10 including white border. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a copy or reproduction. It has a staple mark and some corner creasing. Comments: In 1957, Gorton-Pew Fisheries name was changed to Gorton's of Gloucester; in 1965, it became The Gorton Corporation, and it is now known as Gorton's. In 1968, Gorton's merged with General Mills, Inc., as a wholly owned subsidiary. Christian Archibald Herter (March 28, 1895 - December 30, 1966) was an American Republican politician who was the 59th Governor of Massachusetts from 1953 to 1957 and United States Secretary of State from 1959 to 1961. His moderate tone of negotiations was confronted by the intensity of Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev in a series of unpleasant episodes that turned the Cold War even colder in 196061.
