Product description: Rather than an ethereal call to Christians to disciple the world (as Christ of course commanded us to do), author Dennis Woods offers a practical course of action for Americans who wish to return to our founding principles under God.
In the first part of the book, Woods analyzes the U.S. what it is (and is not); how it was drafted, discussed, and ratified; its humanist and enlightenment underpinnings contrasted with the Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, and Fundamental Orders of Connecticut. Using not polemic, but documents of historical record, the author posits that our Constitution is a covenant-breaking document in effect, if not in intent.
In the second part of the book, Woods follows the trail of legislative, judicial, and bureaucratic accretions which have brought a God-fearing, liberty-loving people to be willing minions of an all-encompassing, godless state. The structure is collapsing, the author posits, because our foundation was bad since the ratification of the Constitution over the strenuous objection of many anti-federalists.
When Patrick Henry said that he would not attend the Constitutional convention because he "...smelt a rat!" this godless foundation is what he was likely referring to.
The final portions of the book are Woods's most valuable step by step, he maps out strategy and tactics for Christians who wish to see our nation restored. We begin with ourselves, our children, and our churches, seeking change in the culture through long-term engagement. He encourages us to get involved in all public realms -- especially politics -- for the good of all our fellow men, and gives concrete steps for achieving these ends.
I've read perhaps 500 books since college, with Discipling the Nations perhaps the most valuable of them. If enough Americans read and heed it, we may see a quiet, effective revolution in America's churches and public life. This is a superb, valuable book, worth re-reading several times
