Item description
This listing is for 20 Compass Plant / Silphium laciniatum seeds.
Common names for compass plant include: rosinweed, pilotweed and gumweed.
Silphium refers to resinous juice and laciniatum which means lacerated.
Each flower bud produces a very sticky resin on its bottom side which makes fine chewing gum with a hint of Wint-0-green flavor for folks who appreciate wild gum in that flavor, lol.
The sap is a diuretic.
A tea made from the roots is vermifuge.
The smaller roots has been used as an emetic.
Tea made from the leaves is emetic.
Earth's pole's are flipping and this plant orientates its flat leaves to be edge on north/south to the sun to keep from drying out. One could, in theory, observe subtle changes in leaf direction over the coming years to see if the crust of the planet is responding to the magnetic pole reversal.
Beautiful stately sun flower like flower to have around.
Greek word 'silphium', which means “medicinal plant”.
The plant makes a long tap root and the leaves grow large.
Birds Love the seeds.
Collect seeds in late summer before the birds eat them all.
Medicinal uses include treatments for coughs, lung ailments, asthma, gonorrhea and intestinal worms (Foster and Duke 1990).
Thank you for looking.
