Author of the study is Johann Lorenz von Mosheim, German Lutheran church historian. His first appearance in the field of literature was in a polemical tract against John Toland. This work is titled “Vindiciae antiquae christianorum disciplinae” and it was published in 1720. Year later a volume of “Observationes sacrae” followed it. These works secured for him a call to the University of Helmstedt. There he gained a title “professor ordinarius” in 1723. The “Institutionum historiae ecclesiasticae libri IV” appeared in 1726. In the same year, he was appointed by the duke of Brunswick abbot of Marienthal. This is one of the more important works regarding church history in Luteranism. *** Helmstadt, 1755. *** Pp.: /8/ + 1034 + /34/ *** Binding: Original full leather binding. Gilted spine cover with a sticker. Signs of wear on the panels and along the edges, scratches, spine joints slightly damaged as well. Bumped corners, cocked spine with spine slants. Condition: Handwritten ex libris on the flyleaf. Inscription by the previous owner on the title page. Some minor stains due to ageing, pencil inscriptions and under linings on some pages.
