The center base measures 4" diameter with a 2" flanged rim which forms a shallow "bowl" in the center that keeps melted ice cream and other liquids from running off of the plate. They are ideal dishes for serving up salads and other meal items that tend to create a pool. They are dishwasher safe on the top rack, but are NOT recommended for use in a microwave oven.
