Item description

Cassette is nice and clean, pre-viewed for quality and played good with a tweak of the tracking. Full screen version is perfect for older model televisions as it will fill your square screen. Box cover has a pronounced wrinkle across the bottom edge (see photo). Classic comedy from Norman Lear, the genius of 'All in the Family' fame. When Eagle Rock, Iowa steps up to the publicity stunt challenge of the tobacco companies, any town to quit for 30 days, they send in their spy to prevent them from winning the astounding $25 million dollar offer. As the town gets closer to reaching their goal it becomes a media circus. With John Deere checkpoints that inspect vehicles coming into town for contraband (cigarettes). Dick Van Dyke is the minister that inspires the town. Tom Poston has a great drunken scene in which he states why he just can't quit and has a hospital stand-off, "don't light that cigarette!" Even president Nixon shows up to congratulate them in the films climax. And a shock ending with several cast members assassinated at Nixon's address. Shows the evils of the tobacco companies cigarettes and how we knew as early as 1971 what we know now. Out Of Print (OOP) and only available as a cheapjack MGM Archives made-to-order dvd-r, this version reportedly has a terrible audio soundtrack. These usually are not afforded the restoration of a regular dvd release and in many cases use the same sourceprint as their vhs counterpart. Also, they don't have any extras, chapter stops are placed randomly rather than carefully nor will they play on recordable devices. Oh, and did I mention they are rather pricey as well. Save your money and frustration and get this original official VHS release with a good sounding soundtrack and a sourceprint that was newer at the time.
