When creating 2-drop even count peyote stitch designs, I often turn to ethnic tribal motifs for my inspiration. This bracelet's pattern is based on a traditional Borneo Dayak motif, often seen in batik-dyed fabrics, but also adapted for tattoos. Rather than traditional batik colors, I chose black for the background, with the swirls in beige beads with a "Picasso" finish that remind me of nubby fabric. The bracelet is designed hand-woven (by me) using a technique called 2-drop peyote stitch, where nearly 2,000 small beads are woven, 2 at a time. The resulting bracelet is supple, with a fabric-like drape. It measures 1" (2.5cm) wide 7" (17.8cm) long, including the bronze-tone tube slide clasp.
