Item description
About 4 1/8" x 5" and almost certain to be the only copy anywhere. It is not impossible that the soldier who took this photo had multiple prints made of his rolls of film and shared some, but in the unlikely event there are others in existence it is even more unlikely you will ever encounter one. I recognized Menjou straight off and might not have identified the woman except she is named in another photo, this one has no notations. The location is Sicily and I even managed to find this reference:
"During World War II, besides starring in Seven Sinners and Flying Tigers (both with John Wayne), Commandos Strike at Dawn (with Paul Muni), Flesh and Fantasy (with Edward G. Robinson and Charles Boyer) and Hangmen Also Die (directed by Fritz Lang); she volunteered for overseas duty with the U.S.O. and entertained Allied troops in North, Central and East Africa, Iran and Sicily, first with Jack Benny and then with Adolphe Menjou. Then, under special orders from General George Patton (who made her an honorary private in the Sixth Army), she spent several months visiting field hospitals throughout the Mediterranean area."
Of interest to collectors of both military and Hollywood memorabilia. Unpublished image, has a lot of potential, reasonably framed and exposed and in nice condition.
