Antique Cabinet Card Photograph. Identified from writing on back that reads, "Amy Johnston Currie - Grandpa Johnston's older sister who was a missionary in Africa 28 years." Photo by a studio in Toronto, Canada. Amy was the wife and evangelical partner of the Rev. Walter Thomas Currie (1858-1915) a missionary in Africa referred to as "The Canadian Livingston" and the subject of the book, "Missionary Adventures in Africa: Letters of Rev. Walter T. Currie." A two-sheet photocopy excerpt from their biographical sketch in "Imperial Vancouver Island" by J.F. Bosher will be included with the purchase of this photo. Amy was reportedly born in Ireland but emigrated to Canada in 1894 where she married Dr. Currie. She was the sister of the Rev. Harry J. Johnston who resided with his family in New Jersey. Measures approximately 6 x 10 including mount. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a copy or reproduction. It is in very good condition aside from a chip in the mount near the upper right corner. Smith and his wife Mary P. Smith (parents of Mary Edwina Smith Johnston, Alice Wilde Smith, and Anabel Smith.
