FRONT COVER: A large detail of Eve's Sari by Bob Paige, 1979, oil, 68 x 60. Collection Mrs. Sherwin Kamin.
FEATURES:
JANICE R. SACHSE: A PAINTERLY RESPONSE TO A REGION, by Keith Cooper Marshall. Termed a regionalist who paints
intimate oil studies of her native surroundings, this Louisiana artist does not, however, confine herself to a singular point of
view or technique.
THE WATERCOLOR PAGE: AL BROUILLETTE. Presenting a personal point of view is the motivation behind the work of this
Texas artist who combines realistic, impressionistic, and abstract interpretations of his subject into a balanced whole.
WAYNE THIEBAUD: BEYOND POP ART, by Susan Stowens. In the 1960s, this California artist achieved international recognition
for his Pop Art. Thiebaud talks about the story behind the paintings that made him famous and the cityscapes he is doing
today, which reveal a fundamental change in style.
BOB PAIGE: MAGNIFYING A SMALL UNIVERSE, by Eve Medoff. Philadelphia artist Bob Paige paints still lifes on a mammoth
scale. Here he explains the procedures--and intentions--behind the creation of his enlarged oils.
THE LIFE AND WORK OF RALPH MAYER, by Eunice Agar. His book The Artist's Handbook became "the Bible" on art techniques
for artists throughout the world; however, Ralph Mayer the painter remained relatively unknown. Here is a look at the man,
his life, and his work.
